Rose Cottage Noss Mayo, Devon

Rose Cottage is a 4 bedroomed stone cottage in Noss Mayo, South Hams .

Inside the decor is modern but with lots of original character. It has wonderful views of the River Yealm from both inside and from the secluded sunny garden. A great base for a get away from it all holiday. You could spend your whole time watching the world go by or , if action is what you crave, there is walking, riding, surfing, sailing, canoeing plus much much more on your doorstep.

The property is  fully equipped with a modern kitchen and bathrooms, double glazing and central heating, but still oozes the character and charm of its history (The original part of the property is thought to date back 400 years).

Once here you may never want to leave the safe haven of the Yealm and all it has to offer. The villages of Noss Mayo and Newton Ferrers, built on opposite sides of the creek,  boast a wealth of amenities including three pubs, The Ship, The Swan and The Dolphin; The Yacht Club, chemist, Post Office, butcher, small co-op and a delightful tea room. There is also a thriving community spirit with the notice boards over flowing with details of local events all year round where you will be made most welcome, and an annual regatta and firework display. If messing about on the water is your thing you could hire a rowing boat or canoe, or try stand up paddle boarding, and explore the creek. At low tide children, of all ages, will love crabbing on the Voss (a concrete causeway that links the two villages).

Plymouth is approximately 10 miles away, with its many shops and restaurants. Its historical quarter The Barbican boasts a number of galleries, restaurants, museums, gift and antique shops. Boat trips can also be taken from here and on a wet day the Marine Aquarium is well worth a visit.

Also within easy reach are the towns of Modbury, Kingsbridge, Totnes, Salcombe, and Dartmouth. Within half an hours drive you will find many beaches, the biggest of which is at Bigbury, where you can take surfing lessons, buy a snack in the Venus cafe, browse the beach shop, or walk across the sand to the famous Burgh island (accessible on foot at low tide). Other nearby beaches include Mothecombe, Wembury, Bovisand and Bantham.

“I have almost run out of superlatives to describe Rose Cottage - it is quite the best holiday let any of us have enjoyed and we had a fabulous week. Like others before us, apart from an excursion to  Kingsbridge Farmers Market and Overbecks on Saturday, we parked up and enjoyed walking in the local area and shopping at the rather splendid Community Shop and Post Office in Newton Ferrers and eating out at The Dolphin and The Ship, and didn’t move the car until our departure.

Both Phil and Anne, and Janet and I, are plotting a return with our grandchildren so you may well hear from us in the future, and thanks again for allowing us to enjoy your wonderful house.”

With very best wishes,

Tom, Janet and friends (May 2016)
